Telkomsel and PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) collaborate to present the application of the first 5G Underground Smart Mining technology in Southeast Asia, to support the operations of the mining industry in Indonesia.
5G Underground Smart Mining technology based on Telkomsel will support automation and remote delay control, to increase PTPFI’s work safety and mining productivity.
The implementation of 5G Underground Smart Mining technology based on Telkomsel through the Telkomsel Enterprise business unit at PTFI has gone through infrastructure updates, network strengthening, and platform development for mobile edge computing.(ist)
The implementation of 5G Underground Smart Mining technology was officially launched by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, and was also attended by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources (ESDM), Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM, Minister of State Secretary at Tembagapura, Papua, Thursday (1/9).
The Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, said, “One of the priorities of the Ministry of SOEs is realizing technological leadership. “If we look at the Deloitt International study in 2021, where 5G Mining has been tested or used in the United States, Sweden, China & Russia, the results are able to increase productivity by up to 25%, operational costs, especially drilling down to 40% and energy savings of up to 40%. 20%,” said Erick.
Erick said he was confident that this breakthrough in using 5G Underground Smart Mining, supported by Telkomsel, could be used more widely in the Indonesian mining industry ecosystem, and open up more new inventions based on digital technology in the mining industry, as a result, the benefits can be felt by citizens and the state.
