WIO EN – The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of the Republic of Indonesia ensures that the best services prepared for elderly pilgrims in the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage.

This is the primary priority of Kemenag in providing excellent service for all pilgrims, especially for those of advanced age.

Director General of Hajj and Umrah Services of Kemenag, Hilman Latief, emphasizes that the elderly are a group of pilgrims who require special attention.

“Elderly pilgrims have different needs compared to pilgrims in general. Therefore, we need to provide more comprehensive and specific services for them,” said Hilman in Jakarta, (23/3/24).

Efforts to Improve Services:

Kemenag has made various efforts to improve services for elderly pilgrims, including

  • Hajj Rituals Guidance: Providing special Hajj rituals modules for the elderly with a focus on health, companionship, and physical readiness. Collaborating with elderly organizations to provide special training and companionship.
  • Companion Officers: Increasing the number of trained companion officers to handle elderly pilgrims. Ensuring that each group has officers ready to assist elderly pilgrims in various worship activities.
  • Health Facilities and Services: Providing adequate health facilities at embarkation points, Hajj dormitories, and in the Holy Land. Collaborating with professional healthcare personnel to provide optimal health services for elderly pilgrims.
  • Accommodations: Prioritizing the placement of elderly pilgrims on lower floors of hotels and close to health services. Providing wheelchairs and other mobility aids in places of worship and public areas.

Socialization and Education:

Conducting socialization and education for elderly pilgrims and their families regarding preparations for the Hajj journey.

Providing specific information and guidelines for elderly pilgrims through various media, such as websites, social media, and brochures.
