ISNU North Sumatra Elects New Leader: Arifuddin Muda Harahap Focuses on Education, Business, and Unity

Medan, Indonesia – Dr. Arifuddin Muda Harahap, M.Hum., was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the North Sumatra Regional Board of the Nahdlatul Ulama Scholars Association (PW ISNU Sumut) for the 2024-2028 period.

The election was held at the ISNU North Sumatra Region III Conference which was held in the Wong Solo Hall, Jalan Gajah Mada, Medan, on Saturday (30/12/2023).

Arifuddin Muda, who previously served as Chairman of the Regional Board of Rabithah Ma’ahid Islamiyah (RMI) North Sumatra, has a vision to make ISNU North Sumatra better and more advanced under his leadership.

He plans to immediately form the PW management and carry out internal consolidation, including fostering ISNU branches that are currently inactive.

One of Arifuddin’s main focuses is to gather the potential of NU scholars and professionals in North Sumatra. He is targeting the acceleration of the addition of professors in state and private universities in North Sumatra, as well as encouraging the development of entrepreneurs from among NU scholars.

Arifuddin sees business opportunities in the fields of coconut shell charcoal, agriculture, and fisheries. He plans to map out resources and human resources that are ready to participate, and targets each ISNU branch to have businesses in these fields.

In addition, Arifuddin also wants to strengthen UMKM and facilitate access to capital for NU members. He believes that UMKM is the spearhead of welfare and unemployment reduction.

  • Strengthen the brotherhood and solidarity of NU cadres.

In the political field, Arifuddin wants to encourage NU scholars who are politicians to continue to improve their performance. He also hopes that political competition will not disrupt the brotherhood and solidarity of NU cadres.

Arifuddin hopes for support from all parties, especially the PP ISNU, to realize his vision of making ISNU North Sumatra better and more beneficial for the community and the nation.

With the election of Arifuddin, ISNU North Sumatra is expected to play a greater role in advancing North Sumatra and Indonesia. (A/Red)
